I see 12 full pages in less than two days with over 160 posts. Can somebody please explain in two or three simple sentances about whats going on and what is all this about?
I have done all the readings about border fence act, SKIL bill, S2611. But I still can figure out whats going on here in this thread.

if you look at the schedule for the previous days, the same bill S. 2611 has been listed on most of the days. I think it is just that this bill is one of the pending items if and when a conference is agreed to...not to mean that it will be discussed or action will be taken on it.

Hello Kodak57,
I dont have a Birth Certificate and the Certificate of unavailability is next to impossible to get from the Local Muncipal Corp.
I do have 2 Affedevits 1from my parents and second from my uncle stating that the record of birth is unavailable and that i was born on a specified date etc.
Would the affedevits along with a School leaving certificate work?

Good to hear that folks have started receiving approvals.
Regarding the PD/RD discussion, it seems to me that the best combination to have is an older PD with a more recent RD. For example, someone with a May 2004 EB2-I PD with an RD of July 02, 2007 might actually have a better chance than someone with the exact same PD but with an RD of say Sep 30, 2005. If true, then this is not fair at all to the folks with older PDs and RDs who've been waiting like forever...

That is exactly true. There is something fishy going on . Only for EB3-I the dates don't move forward whereas Mexico etc have many more cases than us. It is as if USCIS does not want to give GC's to Indians.

But visa numbers are not alloted at the time of receipt of I485's.They are alloted when its ready for approval and if they have one.
earlier visa numbers used to assigned at time of receipt (see the Ombudsmans report). The problem with that was if the application was tied up or denied, the visa numbers were not being properly returned to USCIS.

I agree with you and everybody should keep supporting the IV that brought 14000 members on to a single flat form and share the views, sarrows and happiness.
A big thank you to the IV CORE TEAM.
This is welcome news. However, we should focus on the broader goals of our organization.
Retrogression is far from over. Stop for a moment, celebrate and take the necessary action sure, but do not forget that we have to make efforts so that even folks who come later do not face this issue.
Also dont forget we are not out of the woods yet. The visa numbers and country quota issue along with FBI name check has to be solved ASAP.
However, I would certainly take this opportunity to thank Core, esp WaldenPond, Pappu and logiclife for their commitment and leadership. Core : We are with you and will continue to contribute even when our problems are solved. We should be united and be strong so that we are heard and justice is brought to all of us.

Should research be stopped in areas without jobs? Should such areas be removed from teaching also?

Wadhwa is not my cousin or friend; the author of the article is not related to me; i dont control their minds or psyche.
I was citing a printed material. Macaca had posted the first part in the news section (which i discovered after i posted this in this thread). AAAS is an influential body in american science.I spoke to Jim Austin who is a senior member of the editorial board orwhatever with Science journal published by AAAS. he takes care of science careers section of the journal ina big way. He made some nasty observations about the need (or absence of it) to write on EB2NIW plight of india and china born scientists when many american citizen scientists are without proper jobs and fighting for money from a drying grants pool. He DECLINED to support the goals of IV.
Then came 'Gathering Storm' which Wadhwa doesnot like.
Then, recently Science published the first part which Macaca had quoted.
Then, i saw teh second part and put it up for all of us. These two articles in Science are against the 'Gathering Storm' report by top university and industry leaders on the need for more immigrant scientists, better science education in US, blah, blah..Some parts of this 'Gathering Strom' report is a love letter for IV.
Now, I got 2 red buttons, even Macaca putting a question to me on the content. funny. I dont endorse anybody's view point. I had cleared my NIW a couple of years back.
But remember: AAAS and the likes in National Science Academy DO NOT WANT foreign scientists in the numbers as they are now. if they could prevail, USCIS will be forced (as it happened a few years back) to review its criteria for waht constitutes NIW and EB1 OR qualifications.
You can still question me... but it is no use. I end up visiting IV once in a few days and may not answer you. I see that GayathriS has started another thread supporting Wadhwa.. Now, all the arm chair members have one more axe to grind..Keep grinding until next topic comes to stimulate your ever-argumentative faculties of the fertile, Indian minds. Or, instead of questioning me, do some research and try to consolidate your objections to Wadhwaji as an email or letter. He is intellectualizing anti-immigration in academia with his harvard banner and supported by AAAS/Science coalition. He is lighting up the coal under our seats, not me. One Wadhwa as an asian origin researcher will be widely quoted if he says 'dont import scientist-immigrants' even if dozens of gg_nys, macacas and others say otherwise.

guys after seeing such a long thread i gave some credibility to the post and called USCIS... after jumping through several loops and CS agents ... none of whom had any idea regarding the development mentioned in the post. So after insisting to talk to a senior person I was transferred to ... what they call head of information and CS rel or wat ever it is... i dont remember it exactly... anyway.. i explained our situation/concern/paranoia to him... he listened carefully and gave me these following reply...
1) USCIS is working diligently to process the receipts, but since USCIS is handicapped by limited resources compared to the huge wave of applications it will take some time to post the receipts. In his words "we understand your agony but you also have to understand that we cannot work like machine and solve this in couple of days... we are putting our best efforts and pulling all our resources we very seriously handling the situation"...
2) When told abt the rejection news ... he said he dont have any such information and "we in US gov agency dont play the carrot and stick game... we will honor every word of the july 17th bulletin"
3) when asked what will happen as the visa nos are not available ... he told me "rest assured in USCIS has devised a plan that will take care of majority of the concerns ... but it is unwise to ask anything about the plan as USCIS is in no liberty to divulge any further information about it"...
4) at the end he said not to go berserk at every rumor at every blogs ... "we are all very reasonable people even in USCIS and DOL and understand the gravity of current situation " .... "very govt is tied with some level of bureaucracy so some delay is unavoidable but we are working at our peak efficiency to minimize that"...
5) jokingly he also added that his neighbor is an indian guy and her daughter playes with their kid ... he said "my daughter will kill me if her friends need to go back to india for this"...

The idea, already suggested by lskreddy and pappu, to contact international students will be very effective to increase IV members.
If you look at various contact methods as chain reaction, students have high multiplication factor, and their chain extends to other universities too.
Hope their needs are in scope of IV's mission, because they haven't started G.C. process yet!
To Admin, Pappu and other active members,
Don�t you agree that we need to organize efforts for IV publicity?
Many effective ideas in this thread do not reach to all members. And, there is no way to find out if anybody followed up on particular idea.
Can this work out,
1) Webmaster or a Moderator should manage two new sections called "Media Awareness" and "Member Creation". Links to these sections should be on Home page like "Headlines/Announcements".
It will list all ideas, approved by IV team, which a member can volunteer for.
This list can grow by new ideas submitted by members.
2) When someone finds an idea, for example to contact local newspaper or TV station, in list that s/he can volunteer, that member can submit to list. This way Moderator or other members know it's being taken care of.
Also, volunteers can submit their follow up comments to same list.
May be this has been thought of already.
